Nungarin Primary School P & C and the Nungarin Community Development Group have banded together to launch
the Rent a Farmhouse for a $1 a Week scheme that has been instrumental in reviving so many towns in NSW and
Victoria. Towns such as Cumnock, NSW who launched the scheme three years ago attracted 10 new families to
their district with 9 of the originals still there and planning to stay.

The scheme places suitable families in older farm houses in need of TLC. In return for only $1 a week rent the
family works with the farmer to do improvements and renovations over a 2-3 year period. 

Seeking safer, greener environments to raise their children, families are keen to become an active part of these
smaller rural communities.

The first town in WA to introduce $1 a week farmhouses, Nungarin has all this to offer new families and more.
With active winter and summer sports, a vibrant community, a great little primary school, Merredin High School
just down the road and plenty of employment and small business opportunities to explore, we have everything a
family looking for a "Tree Change" needs.

We are currently assessing our farm houses. At present we have two houses available.
Both are three bedroom and one has the option of veranda rooms as well.

Home number 1.

This great old farmhouse is 21km from Nungarin on a mainly sealed road.

It has 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a large kitchen/dining (with gas and wood stove) and a separate living
room complete with open fire. It has wide verandahs all round, some established garden, a potting shed
come green house, vegetable garden section and usable chook pen. The yard is fully enclosed with small
work shed and 1 car garage.

Some minor TLC and painting is required throughout the inside together with some major bathroom work.
It will however have a new hot water system and help will be available with repairs.

The school bus route is still under review, subject to student numbers.

development centre at  www.directionswa.com.au . Nungarin is close to both Kununoppin and Merredin
hospitals, and like most country towns/areas we suffer a shortage of tradespeople, teachers, nurses,
medical staff etc. Being a wheat belt town there is a wide variety of seasonal work available relating to the
sowing and harvesting of grain crops and some shearing/ sheep work.

Home Number 2 

Ernie's Cottage

This great little house has 3 bedrooms, some verandah rooms that could be either office or play areas or become
more bedrooms. It has a kitchen /dining with gas and wood stove, and an open fire in the lounge room. The
separate bathroom and toilet just need some superficial TLC. There are verandahs back and front.

There is some basic carpentry work to be done, eg new floor boards on the front verandah and the verandah rooms
need some tiding up before they could be used as bedrooms. However the yard is well fenced and there is room for
a veggie garden and to build a chook yard. It has a great work shed that's big enough for a work shop and garage.

The school bus will come to the front gate (200m) and it is 15km to Nungarin on all sealed road. The initial lease is
3-4yrs neg. and as well as the carpentry work just needs painting and tidying outside , and some painting in rooms
inside.
